| Hello,I have a job in my db called test. Which basically processes a batch billing system. Now we can have more than one instance of the billing system initiated by different users.I noticed i can only run ONE instance of a job. So how do i run multiple instances of the billing system, since the 2nd will be refused when we have an instance running ?Or do we add more job steps ?Thanks_____________________Yes O ! |

You can't run seperate instances of a job. A job behaves like a "singleton". More steps won't help becuase the steps are performed in sequence. You can scale the job to some extent by creating multiple (identical) jobs ie: myJob1, myJob2, etc. If they are scheduled to run continiously and coordinated in some fasion so they don't attempt to process rows that are currently being processed by the other jobs then that can work. However, if you need to "instantiate" an unlimited number of processing instances (concurrently) then a JOB is not the solution.I can tell you are working on a large billing system but can't really adivise on an overall stategy/architecture because all I see are individual questions posted. I can see that you may be frustrated because the advice you get is sending you around in circles. But all the advice I've read so far to your questions is good advice for the question you asked in that topic. I guess the important thing that you get out of these posts is an understanding of what jobs, triggers, and stored procedures are and how they behave so you can make intelligent design decisions.EDIT:One question:You seem to be accountable for creating a very complexe system using MS Sql Server yet you seem to have virtually no experience with that technology. Has someone "volenteered" you unfairly for this project or have you bitten off more than you can chew Be One with the OptimizerTG |

| Thanks. We are revamping an inhouse application 3 of us involved and everyone has his/her own input. My boss also is a member of these forums and others. The old solution worked on triggers and never had any problem in the last 4 years. We are implementing the same solution for a bigger company and I am just a trainee on the job and need to ask questions.cos i need to add my own inputs_____________________Yes O ! |
