something like

select ItemCode
from tbl
group by ItemCode
having sum(QtyPurchased) =
(select max(QtyPurchased)
from (select QtyPurchased = sum(QtyPurchased)
from tbl group by ItemCode) as a)

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.
