I'm trying to find out if there is anyway to change the value of a string variable containing 0123 to abcd where 0=a, 1=b, 2=c, 3=d. Likewise, 3210 = dcba. Thank you.

SELECT @Str = REPLACE(@Str, Num.Val, CHAR(CH.number))
FROM Master..spt_Values CH
INNER JOIN (SELECT SUBSTRING(@Str, Number, 1) AS 'Val'

			WHERE type = 'P'
				and number > 0
				and Number <= LEN(@Str)) Num ON Num.Val = CH.Number - 97
