What is the difference between Windows Authentication and SQL Authentication?

One uses your current security context, meaning the user logged into the client machine, and the other uses an account created directly inside SQL Server. You can read more about both in SQL Server Books Online.

Additional info:
Windows Authentication is much more secure.
SQL passwords are stored in SQL Server in encrypted form but they are vulnerable to being hacked - the shorter the password the easier.
5 minutes on google will find many tools to "recover passwords"
