A snapshot as in a database snapshot? (as opposed to snapshot replication)

A backup is a full copy of the database (schema and data) at the time the backup was made.
A snapshot is a point-in-time view of a database. All that's contained in the snapshot file is the original version of pages that have changed in the source DB since the snapshot was created. It's not a full copy of the DB.
