I am running a counter log (Performance Monitor) to analyse our production server. I have a question regarding the following counter 'PhysicalDisk: Avg. disk queue length'. I read that the value of this counter should average below 2 per disk.We have 5 raid-sets all of them in raid 1 on our SAN. (I know this is not the best configuration but the dba before me decided this)This makes a total of 10 disks in our SAN. Does this mean that the value of the counter should average below 20 (10 * 2)? |

That counter's very difficult to interpret when you have a SAN. All the caching, controllers and the like make the values almost meaningless.--Gail ShawSQL Server MVP |
