I understand that SQLS 08 is designed to work only with Windows Server 2008. Is this true?I currently run SQLS 05 x64 on XP Pro x64 - it runs fine and I would like to be able to continue to use this for 08...until upgrading to Windows 7 next year. Is this likely to be possible? If there is no alternative to Windows Server 2008 as the OS, will this run as a standalone OS? My installation is not networked and needs to run on a standalone basis.Thanks.Chris

Thanks for the info and the link - I got the information on the SQLS grapevine...thought I had better check it out.I hope I have better luck installing 08 under XP than I did when I tried to instal 05 under Vista...Chris

That wouldn't be too difficult, 2005 under vista was a complete nightmare! 2008 under Home Premium is OK except that reporting services doesn't work, everything else works fine.

Looking ahead, I understand that Microsoft are withdrawing licences for new instances of XP (I think that the licensing finishes next month). Apparently, the idea is to force people to buy Vista and then sweeten this by offering a cheap upgrade to Windows 7. I am hoping (definitely not assuming) that, if SQLS 08 works under Vista, it will still work under Windows 7...Chris

Don't know anything about that, not sure that the greatest thinking from MS. I can understand it once W7 is out, but not before as Vista has been such a dog..
