Hi,

We have an standalone server with 2 instances of SQL2005. I applied the SP2 on both instances and it worked fine without any issues but now names instance is at sp2 (3042) but default instance is still at RTM(1399). I applied it again and since names instance was already updated it shows me to only upgrade default instance and worked fine and in log file it is showing old version : 1399 and new version : 3042 but once I start the service it is again showing 1399.
What can be the possible issue that is blocking the sp2 upgrade?

Thanks

We had this happen too. I opened a case with Microsoft on it, but we were never able to resolve it.

Thanks, What was the workaround -- Reinstall SQL Server?

We didn't even bother since the instance wasn't in use. It's still sitting there showing us the wrong version.

We spent lots of hours on the phone with Microsoft trying to get it resolved. You may have better luck than us though. It was about 1.5 years ago, so perhaps they have workarounds now.

Have you tried service pack 3?
