Hi All,I want to learn how to use SQL Server 2008 express with Advanced tools, so I have got my-self a book (begginning sql server 2008 express for developers). However I seem to be hitting a small problem with installation, I get so far then sql server goes through a checklist then fails and says that I need to re-boot my pc or my computer is waiting to be restarted???I have restarted my pc 4 or 5 times and I am still hitting the same road block. Can anyone help me with this.If it helps Im using Windows Vista Home Premium. Thanks very much.John

It doesn't sound like the reboot is the issue - if the checklist is failing you need to fix whatever is failing, and you didn't say what's failing in your post?

not sure how else I can explain this without posting a screen shot???Ok, The install starts by extracting the files to be installed on my computer, then Windows starts the installer from which I tick the box to accept the end user lisnce agreement, I then get a screen with some options, from there I select install and then I click on the top option, from there another screen pops up which is the check list I was talking about in my last post, all of the checks pass appart from one which states very clearly that my pc is waiting to be re-booted, when I click on the option to show mw a report, a screen comes up that says my system is waiting to be re-booted from another program, once my computer has been re-booted I can retry the installation of SQL.Thats what happens from scratch. If you want a screen shot I will have to sort it out later.CheersJohn

It sounds like it could be that something else failed to install correctly, perhaps try doing a Windows Update before you try the SQL Server install?
