| First off, nice site here. Lots of useful information I have found already!I decided to register to ask you folks what you recommended I do to begin studying to become a DBA. That is my ultimate goal. I plan on getting as many certifications as I can in as many platforms as I can.With that said, could you guys point me to some good books you recommend I begin learning on? I'm not a complete beginner as I have taken an SQL class in college and understand a decent amount about queries, but will be studying it agian to refresh my brain.As I said before, I am looking to become a DBA. Could you recommend me books that I can purchase to give me a good base to start studying for the certifications and to become a knowledable DBA.I have access to all of Microsofts software (MSDN Licenses are great!) so that is not a worry!Thanks in advance!-TylerStudying for DBA Certifications |

| There is a lot to learn between one class in college on SQL and being a professional DBA, and some of the most important learning comes from experience, so I'd recommend looking for a job that involves SQL development as a starting point, and once comfortable there, move toward Administration. Other recommended learning paths include reading the forums and blogs here, check the books listed on this web site's Books page, and come to the PASS Community Summit in Seattle this November. One of my all-time favorite books on SQL is The Guru's Guide to Transact-SQL by Ken Henderson, but it is by no means an entry-level book.--------------------------------------------Brand yourself at EmeraldCityDomains.com |
