Hi,I am working in a small organization, we have only 1 prod and 1 dev and 1 test servers(SQL2005 Standerd edition). We want to purchase a third party monitoring tool to monitor the SQL activities. Please advice, which tool is better option for this environment. |

Hmmmm - so budget is probably important, eh? Most of the better monitoring tools are expensive ("expensive" being a relative term to what it saves you, I suppose). My fav is Idera's DM: http://www.idera.com/Products/SQL-Server/SQL-diagnostic-manager/. It'll likely run you $2k per instance though...Most of us are also fans of Quest's Spotlight toolhttp://www.quest.com/spotlight-on-sql-server-enterprise/A cheaper alternative is http://www.sqlsolutions.com/products/IO%20Activity%20Monitor/index.html. It is good as well. Jeremy Kadlec has a nice write up on the different tools here: http://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1067========================================================I have about 1,000 video tutorials on SQL Server 2008, 2005, and 2000 over at http://www.learnitfirst.com/Database-Professionals.aspx |
