Hi all, I am attempting to run dbcc indexdefrag on some very large indexes. I chose this option because I read it could be stopped and restarted without losing work. I could not find the appropriate way to stop and restart so I ran it in em and just clicked stop, then reran.

Unfortunately when I stopped, the last message I saw was "DBCC: Compaction phase of index 'IX_Message_Links' is 40% complete." when I restrarted I got "DBCC: Compaction phase of index 'IX_Message_Links' is 5% complete."

Has it started over? Is there a way to tell?

Thanks in advance!!

It has started over but since indexdefrag just moves pages that are out of order it will go fast over the section it did before and then carry on from there.
