| Hi,I am considering migrating from access 2003 to SQL Server due to the database size limitations of access (2gb). However, before I can move forward, I need to purchase SQL Server with the appropriate licensing model and that is where I am getting stuck. The SQL Server will be used as a standalone application in a non corporate environment on my desktop PC or laptop or possibly both. It will not be used on a server PC in a networked environment and will not be accessed by client PC's other than my desktop or laptop on which it is installed.Would anyone please be able to advise me on the licensing model for my requirements, I am getting a bit confused between the processor licensing, the device licensing and the user licensing.I am looking at purchasing SQL Server 2005 with the options that provide the GUI for query creation (Management Studio ?). Or, if there are any recommendations for an alternative purchase involving SQL Server I am happy to take that on board.Any advice most appreciated and pleased to have found you guys (my 1st post)Thx & RgdsGrowlos |

Who will use it? Just you? I'd suggest you take a look at the Developer Edition: Here's the blurb from : http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/developer.aspxquote: For Independent Software Vendors, Consultants, System Integrators, Solution Providers, and Corporate DevelopersSQL Server 2005 Developer Edition allows developers to build and test any type of application with SQL Server on 32-bit, ia64, and x64 platforms. Developer Edition includes all of the functionality of Enterprise Edition, but is licensed only for development, test, and demo use. Each license of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition entitles one developer to use the software on as many systems as necessary and additional developers can use the software by purchasing additional licenses. For rapid deployment into production, Developer Edition can easily be upgraded to SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.
I couldn't find a price online, but I think it's +/- £50 in the UK. |
