How do you handle SQL topics you are not familiar with when your manager starts asking questions about it?

But when you are working and your manager or some other associate come to your desk and hits you with questions that you don't know. You can't say to them I'm going to look it up.

You tell them what you know and say you will find out the rest of the answer later.

Why not?

"Not sure, let me check" is a perfectly valid response to a question out of the blue. Unless you incorrectly let them believe that you are an expert on the particular topic.
