I am new to SQL2000 and I have a problem even before starting to use it.

My OS is Windows XP Media Center.

I downloaded and run
SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.EXE
SQL2000.MSDE-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.EXE
SQL2000.AS-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.EXE

Then I try to run setup.bat in directory c:\SQL2KSP4 or
setupsql.exe in directory c:\SQL2KSP4\x86\setup

and in both cases, after the splash screen, the setup wizard starts and immediately I get an error message saying:

"SQLServer 2000 is not installed on this machine - Setup will now exit."

I rebooted the computer but the problem persisted.

Am I missing something I should do? Please help.

Maurizio

It seems you are trying to run the service pack isntallation, but SQL Server engine isn't even installed. You'll need to get the base product installed first.

Do you even want to both with SQL Server 2000 though? 2000 is 10 years old and very outdated. How about 2008 instead?
