Hi,

I am new to SQL Server.

I upgraded my Access DB Memo fied to NTEXT in MSSQL DB.

But I am not able to retrieve / store more than approx. 32000 English characters !

How can I store Large English Text file in MSSQL 2005/2008 ?

Please help.

My Web App is in trouble.

Regards and Thanks in advance

You mean you can only DISPLAY 32k characters. Yes, that's true. Change your options for Management Studio.
The column can store 1 billion characters.
Please differ between storage and display.

And you should NOT use NTEXT any longer. Use NVARCHAR(MAX) for better options to work with the column.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
I am using Management Studio express.

1) When I retrieve the text from NTEXT through Cold Fusion Programme, I only get 32K characters. And while UPDATING the Column, I am also having problem.

2) If I change Column type from NTEXT to NVARCHAR(MAX), will I loose the data? Can NVARCHAR(MAX) also store upto 1 billion Characetrs ?

Thanks and Regards

The 32k limit is a Cod Fusion behaviour. Ask them to change it, since string in Cold Fusion (at least before) could be 32k at most.
Changing from NTEXT to NVARCHAR(MAX) will not loose any characters.

Hi,

Thanks for the help.
I just checked. You are right. CF text variable has default limit of 64K. May be the hosting agency has restricted it to 32k.

One more thing - Can NVARCHAR(MAX) also store upto 1 billion Characters ?
