You may want to check if named pipes are enabled in client protocols (in SQL Server Configuration Manager). Also, if you have firewalls, you would need to open them - there is some information here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189307.aspx I don't have much familiarity with named pipes, so what I said is based simply on my intuition. Someone else on the forum may be able to offer more concrete suggestions.

Some other useful information is here (which may or may not be applicable to your situation).
