What will happen if I'm running a query with the NOLOCK hint but the SQL Server has run out of resources?

Not sure what you mean, nolock saves resource since each lock needs memory.

there are (at least) two problems with reading NOLOCK:

1. the data you get back may be uncommitted, so it's not safe to use in applications that care about data integrity.
2. it can cause your query to simply fail.
