can we interchange the column position in sql.

You shouldnt really worry about this as you can always retrieve columns in whatever order you want by specifying them in your SELECT statement.

An alternative solution:
Create a view with the columns in required order.

Is a view necessary when you want nothing else rather than changing order of column retrieval?

No you can do it in the select statement.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.
