and one more sad thing is the users have permissions to connect through windos authentication mode.....if they changed again the sa password....that will become a big problem. how can i make them to connect only through sql authentication mode?

Thats not good as a senior DBA.Infact windows authentication is better than SQL authentication.

Take away all their other access, BUT, why would you do that. If you are using windows, just set up a windows group and give that the required permissions, then just add their windows logins to that group.

If there windows logins have access to change the sa password then they dont need sa, they already have the basicallly same permissions. I agree with RickD, grant only the permission they need.

Remove builtin\administrators and other windows groups from sysadmin role.
