Hi, I'm very new to SQL Report Services. Currently, I'm using the SQL Business Intelligence Development Studio. I'm trying to export reports to excel with Report Viewer. Is Report Viewer a separate software that I need to purchase?Another question is, if I export the report to excel, will the exported data retain the same formatting and structure when put into excel?Thank you!Shell |

You don't need to use Report Viewer separately unless you want to call your reports from an application (eg web or winforms). You should be able to export to excel from within the Business Intelligence Dev Studio. When you want users to see your reports, you "Deploy" them or "Upload" them to a Report Server. An excel export changes the data slightly. It removes pagination (ie no page footers & headers) & it creates some additional rows to cater for any objects you have on your page besides tables. Other than that it's quite similar. |
