Hi, can anyone out there help please? I have just had a new machine (XP Pro, Visual Studio 2008) and SQL 2000 won't install on the machine - it sits dormant for ages, and if you go back to menu to start again, you get a msg box saying there is already an instance running.

I'm 90% convinced this is something to do with Visual Studio 2008, as I had no problems with XPPro and .Net 2.0 on my previous machine

Any ideas?

There is no 'developer / standard' edition.

Sorry, let me be a little clearer. It was either the developer or the standard edition. Our software team swiped back the disks, so I'm not entirely sure. I believe it was the standard edition. My colleague had the same problem, and has the same machine set up as myself.

We did use a different set of disks on our previous machines, and had no problem.

I'm wondering if it would work if we remove vs 2008, install sql 2000, then install vs 08 after.

I'm offsite for a couple of days and trying to find a solution for when I'm back in the office.
