We have some reports which are only meant to be exported to excel (ie not displayed on the screen or printed). Is it possible to have a report paramter or a url query param which will cause the report to open straight to an excel export rather than displaying the report?

The reports are being called from an ASP.net app using the report viewer.

Another related question - is there some run-time variable which knows/indicates whether the report is being exported or displayed on-screen?

Yup. just append rs:Format=Excel to report url to render it as excel.

Thanks Visakh. Can you pls give an example of this say with: http://xxxxxxx/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fSafety%2fContractor+Certificates+Register
I've tried immediately after and also &rs:Format=Excel and haven't been able to get it to work.
Thanks
