Why do you not want to have free space on a server? Thanks.

You always want free space on a server. I'm so confused why this question is even being asked.

I don't know. It's beginning to feel like I'm on a wild goose chase.

I'm trying to make sense of this sentence, where it sounds like the elimination of free space is a bonus:

"SQL Server migration includes elimination of free space as databases are converted to SQL2005."

it's probably meant as a free space in a database file.
a database file can have a lot of unused free space due to index fragmentation.
