Thanks 4 the advice afrika!I tried the instructions on the page you sent and I am still getting the error. The issue is that I want to ultimately want to replicate between my in house Server and the Web host SQL Server so I don't ideally want to connect via MS Express or any web-based admin tool.My thing is that my nslookup seems to be pointing to a different IP address than the IP address of the webserver but ping and pathping resolve the name to the correct IP address. Are you aware of any possible reprecursions this sort of thing could have? Thanks for all the assistance! When you looks into an abyss, the abyss looks also into you-- Friedrich Nietsczhe |

Most probably the db is on another "SHARED" Server which is most of the time the case.As your web host for the connection details. |

Good Morning ,Do you know of any peculiarities involved with connecting to 'Shared' SQL Servers?I have contacted the Webhosts and they say that they have not blocked any IP addresses on their firewall. So right now I am in Limbo with regards my next line of action. Is it possible the Databse they created for me is actually an instance of SQL Server? I'm willing to try anything at the moment.Any suggestions? When you looks into an abyss, the abyss looks also into you-- Friedrich Nietsczhe |

Thanks again afrika,All I am simply trying to do is connect to a remote SQL Server which is located at my webhosts in the US.The Webhosts are acting quite difficult. They don't seem to know much about their servers. In the long run I might want to replicate between the in-house servers and the Webhost ISP SQL Server. But right now I just want to connect to their servers. I have done some port scanning using ZenMap and found that their Server actually DOES have the SQL Server port open but it seems to be filtered! I am truly baffled. My configuration basically is a couple of in-house servers connected via a VSAT connection to the internet with an iDirect router in between.I have telnetted into the router just to see if I can monitor what packets are sent and received and I have not been lucky on that end as well.Do you think that cos I am within a corporate Network I might have to do additional work just to set it up. I am with an AD-based domain internally and maybe I am getting this error because the remote server is not in the same domain as I am.In fact I think that is the main problem because I have secondary SQL Servers within the organisation which I can connect to without much fuss. Do you know how I can check if RPC is enabled on the SQL Server? Thanks for all the assistance. When you looks into an abyss, the abyss looks also into you-- Friedrich Nietsczhe |

I would first try to see if you can connect with Enterprise manager or management studio. Based on the configuration there are giving you.Ask them for the settings, if u cant. Try to connect to another SQL instance on your network. Thats key |

No problem. Can you connect to remote SQL Servers over the internet? The only reason why I requested your email was because I wanted to at least give you my credentials so that you could determine if you could login into the servers and then I would know that it's definitely a problem on my side.No offense taken at not wanting to put your details online. I normally wouldn't but desperate times call for desperate measures. Is there any PM(Private Message) facility on this site? Thanks again. When you looks into an abyss, the abyss looks also into you-- Friedrich Nietsczhe |

OK Lemme rephrase:Can you help me connect to MY Database via the internet. I need to do this to determine where the problems reside. If you can connect then the problem lies between my ISP and my webhost. Please I would be very grateful if you could do this. And just inform me however you want me to get my credentials to you. As I said I would be grateful. Thanks. When you looks into an abyss, the abyss looks also into you-- Friedrich Nietsczhe |
