Hi.I have joined as there are lots of people who work with databases here, and I could sure use some help.My goal is to become a DBA, but I'm having trouble knowing where to start. I work in a dead end job right now, doing simple phone support and reading from a script. A monkey could do what I do. :( My company has no ops for moving up and there is zero chance of them paying for training or getting experience on a DB. I bought a few books and read up on basic sql commands, but it's hard to really get a feel for doing it. I looked for courses in sql at any of my local colleges, but there aren't any. There are private training courses that I could do, but they are very expensive and only last for a week, so I can't see how they would be any use. To sum up- I'm drawing a blank and could really use some direction. Thanks.

Working thru tutorials is a good way to become familiar with how things work. On the web, search for something like: tutorials "sql server"

Im am a trainee/junior DBA at the moment, i have been doing it for a month and i find it very interesting and challenging. I am learning SQL from various sites and i find the best thing to do is read other peoples queries and try to understand it. I have also learned a great deal from spending time reading random questions on this site :DI would recommend:www.w3schools.comwww.pinaldave.comwww.sql-tutorial.netwww.firstsql.comGood luck with the learningC.U.N.T = Computer User Non Technical :)

10 bucks an hour is relative to where you live. In Canada, you could get almost as much as US, but don't even think of 10$/Hr in India! It also depends on your experience. If you've never made a db and ask 40$/Hr, you might be a bit out of the track.NickBeginning with something is a good start!

I got a raise im at 16 dollars an hour now. I still feel like I'm underpayed. I guess its still cheap because I'm still an intern. They want to offer me a full time position though. Whats the average salary? so I know what I'm dealing with |
