Hello,I'm wondering if anyone can help with a query I have. Locally I have SQL Server 2005, but my hosting provider has SQL Server 2000. The problem is the script that is generated when I use SQL Server database publishing Wizard to trasnfer the database to the hosting provider generates lots of errors, I'm certain this is to do with the fact that i'm going from 2005 to 2000, does anyone know of any tools or applications out there that will convert this sql file into a 2000 compatible file? Many thanks

whats the compataibility level of 2005 db? you can set it to 80 if you want it to be consistent with sql 2000 db.

I agree with you but unfortunately we wouldn't be able to change over, the hosting provider did say by the end of this year they will be on 2005, but I wouldn't hold my breath. There is an option within SQL Server publishing Wizard that allows you to convert for 2000, this seems to have worked.

Its a lot of work upgrading and downgrading. And you miss out in many new features supported in 2005 and now 2008. - Also, when will they support 2008 ?2000 has a few shortcomings which wont work for us at this point in time, security, varchar(max), .net features, ADO.NET etc

varchar(max) is the one I got caught out with, 2000 wouldn't support it. Considering they haven't upgraded to 2005, I would say atleast a few years before they get to 2008, lets hope not though. the database won't have highly confidential information and 2000 should be fine to store the data.
