Is there any version of MS-Sqlserver that is installed on platforms other than windows for example in Linux or unix platform?

No. For the *nix system, the default db is either

MySQL or PostGresSQL which are both free out of the box and open source, However other enterprise RDBMS also can be ported on the *nix platforms
