| Hi,My vb client is a loop that contantly accessing the SQL server. What is/are the better ways for the client to detect that the SQL server is up and running, before proceeding.Currently, if my SQL statements executed and returns an error, I assume that the SQL Server is down. Thanks. |

| Use SMO/DMO to get list of network servers that are available currently and check whether your server is in the list. Google SMO or DMO. I think you can use anyone of the object model. |

In your connectionstring, set connection timeout to a low value, 2 second or so. E 12°55'05.63"N 56°04'39.26" |
