The repldata folder's only used for snapshot data. With the sharing removed, if the distributor and subscriber are on separate machines and you have to reinitialise the replication, the application of the snapshot will fail.--Gail ShawSQL Server MVP

in my case, i've tested on same machine (publisher and distributor as well as subscriber).but in my production scenario, production and distributor are on same machine. but subscriber is another server. i think without sharing definetly that will fail. can i give only read permissions to that particular users? because of lack of security on that folder, i'm getting problem with the replication everytime.so please provide me much information regarding sharing and permissions on this folder Gilamaster.....ArnavEven you learn 1%, Learn it with 100% confidence.

You should give full permission for that folder for all accounts involved in Replication otherwise it will fail.

but with this, some one is deleting the files, that is the reason i'm getting these problems...is there any way to know what are the users involving to use the folder....i mean who ever the users involving in replication.....i've given the replication permissions (while creation) to the user 'sa'. but on the repldata folder, i've given permissions to everyone with full control. i dont know to whom to give the permissions on that folder. is it windows level or sql server level?ArnavEven you learn 1%, Learn it with 100% confidence.

You don't need to give full access to all users, just to the replication users. No one else should have access. You can't give windows-level permissions to SQL users. SQL logins are specific to SQL. That's why they're called SQL logins . When you set up replication you specify the windows accounts that the replication uses. Those users need access and no one else.Best option - find out who's deleting files and tell them to stop it.I'll also repeat my previous comment - May I suggest having a read through Books Online. --Gail ShawSQL Server MVP

I'd start with the overview of replication and work down from there. This particular issue, though, is detailed (at least in the SQL 2008 Books Online) under the topic "Replication Agent Security Model"--Gail ShawSQL Server MVP
