Hi!
when doing UNION my execution plan shows me that my joins are hogging up to 36% of the query in the execution plan.
How can I reduce that or is this a given?

This isn't something that we can answer given what you have provided. If you want to run improve the speed of the query, then we'll need to see the query plus the DDL of the tables including indexes and constraints.
