OK so I have been having problems, I had windows 2000 server with SQL database on it which I have managed to back up and everything seems ok well sort of !! Now I am thinking do I really need windows 2000 server or could I network the database up in XP pro ? along with printers to run backup ect as I did on windows server ? It is easy to do or should I persist with 2000 server ? having had so many errors >?just a thought I had ?

So are you able to get into the SQL Server- Databases? We are using Windows 2000 for SQL 2000 and have no major issue with it so we have to change hardware platform.

Put this in Run:C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\SQL Server Enterprise Manager.Msc You are doing Cold backup. SQL Server Databases can be backed up online called Hot Backup. |

Hi Russel, Sodeep,Russel had a bad stop in an earlier thread. :http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=119179I'm not sure what condition his mdf / ldf files are in. I think he said the system crashed at some point so I guess sqlservice was still running. His ldf file grew to 70+ Gb on a 80 Gb hard drive. Don't know when he did a backup (sql backup) last.Last thing I knew was he had moved the mdf and ldf files somewhere safe and was going to try rebuiding the windows installation -- I think he's probably installed windows over the top of itself so his registry will probably be broken.Charlie===============================================================Msg 3903, Level 16, State 1, Line 1736The ROLLBACK TRANSACTION request has no corresponding BEGIN TRANSACTION

Last known backup since the thing went down was 06/08 as the other back drive failed so had to reformat it and lost a few months worth
