| We've recently migrated from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005, and I've got a couple disgruntled users who miss Enterprise Manager's ability to open top 'X' records and to edit those records in place. The 2005 'equivalent' is to open the entire table and then look for the specific entries you are trying to edit. Has anyone developed a workaround/plug in or anything that brings the ability to edit a small group of records in grid format into SQL Management Studio? I've looked here and there, but all I've found is a sea of complaints about the difference, not any solutions. |

| Well, in SQL 2008 you can edit the top n rows, not sure in SQL 2005 though as not used it for a while. |

| Why dont you use t-sql UPDATE statement to do update of top n rows? In SQL 2005, UPDATE TOP (N) is supported. |

It's one of those 'middle-of-the-road' requirements; there's certain information that the owner of the company wants to edit by hand in our ERP DB which they had once been able to do in EM, and cannot now. I'm more than willing to draw up something that they can re-use as we move ahead, and actually would prefer that, but I was asked to make sure the 'old way' was completely out of the picture so, due diligence, so on and so forth. |
