Hi,

I am trying to connect to a remote SQL server 2005 using SQL Management Stuido Express. I have looked for hours at forumns to try and fix this error but had no luck. I have tried all the obivious, turning the firewall off, making sure the server allows remote connections.

I'm pulling my hair out so any help might save a few strands :-) Thanks

Error:

===================================

Cannot connect to 213.xxx.xx.xxx\SQLSERVER.

When you open Management Studio if you choose "browse" do you see the instance?

One more thing that you may want to try is

Go to command prompt type

osql -S <serverName> -E (if windows authentication) else
osql -S <serverName> -U <userName> -P <pwd> (if SQL auth..)
