I could use some help from you guru's out there.
Just installed SQL Server 2005(all components) on my home pc, Vista Business, 64 bit.
Everything works fine, can connect to DB Engine, SSAS and SSIS. However, I cannot connect to SSRS in SS Management Studio.
When I go to http://localhost/reports via Internet Explorer(run as admin) I get "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:443 (System).
I enabled IIS and Net Framework in Windows Features.
On an old computer(32bit) I was able to successfully get this working.
I installed a default installation.
Thanks for reading and any suggestions and help.
Note: I am doing self-study training on my own, so I may be asking more very elementary questions.

This is a common issue with Vista. Have a look here:

or here:

Hi Rick,
Thanks for the reply.
I've done most of the steps in the KB article, but not all. I'll print it out at the office and try it this evening.

It did not work.
In fact, I uninstalled the complete installation, and reinstalled, the reporting server and report temp dbs did not get installed, and Report Manager would not run, because it was not installed even though I specified it's installation.

Not sure what to do at this point? Uninstall again and do a "restore checkpoint", to two days ago, after I booted up the system?

This is really frustrating.

Trying to get RS working on Vista is the ultimate in frustration. I would do a google search for your problems as there are loads of people with the same problems.

I went to that blog you listed and the guy who "owns" it indicated "it was simple and worked like a charm".
Thanks for replying to my question.

I guess it is "simple" if you get it working first time, like anything though, if you hit a snag, it becomes anything but simple.

Did you disable the windows firewall, the message does appear firewallish.

I did a complete uninstall of SQL Server this morning, and a "System Restore to a checkpoint" from Saturday afternoon, which happened to be when I powered up the machine for the first time. With all the uninstalls/re-installs I did, things may have gotten tangled, so I am starting fresh this evening.
I've printed off a few blogs on the topic.
Fun and games...though I'd rather be spending time learning more about using report manager with my study guides/materials...
Gotta love Microsoft...! LOL

I reinstalled this evening, made the necessary and documented setting changes to IIS(version 6 is on my pc), installed the software, then sp2.

As indicated in one of the links in a post above, set the application pool to "classic"... was able to bring up report manager but got the Red X, and "ERROR", and the message "Unable to connect to the remote server".

Not sure what to do next or where to look. I've followed instructions on just about every KB article or blog site.

Report Services Configuration tool shows all items as as "configured" except for Email Settings and Execution Account which are shown as recommended.

I did disable the Windows Firewall.

n msl,
When prompted, I entered my user log in name and password for my computer. For example: computername-PC\saviorfaire,
I was able to get up and running on my 64 bit Vista machine, as I posted in another thread.

Hi Savior faire

No luck with that...i changed my directory security to anonymous and now it doesnot ask me for any credentials.instead it directly gives msg
'this page can't be found'

I am working on a Windows xp professional..and after i type http://localhost and hit enter, the web address automatically changes to http://localhost/misc/default.asp

Thanks

I believe the url should have "http://localhost/reports".
Do you have Report Services running? You can check that in Admin Tools---> Services?

Hi,

I have configured Reporting services to use the default website and the the default virtual Directories (Reports and ReportServer).

when I go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services, I can see Report Server and Reports folder branches under my Default Web Site tree, still cannot connect to localhost

Could anybody help? I do not know what else I could try ...

thank you

n msl,
I found the thread on this where I found the solution, I just bumped it, and should be just about this particular thread.

Though I have a Vista machine, I do not know if it applies to an XP machine.
Rick D's post and links gave me some other suggstions.

I am currently studying a book written by Brian Larsen, who worked on Report Services as a consultant designing the software. In the initial chapters he says XP must be on service pack 1a.
