| I have already known SQL using MySQL and I have windows XP (Service Pack 2). I was wondering which on is better for me to learn: 2005 or 2008? I have noticed that the installation of SQL Server unlike MySQL is kind of complicated. Do you know any website that I can use for installation? By the way, since I am a visual person, do you know any website that offers video streamming to teach SQL Server Express? I would really appreciated if you can let me know. Thanks! |

2005 and 2008 are very similar. I would recommend learning 2008 so that you are current on the technology. Once you've learned 2008, you could easily learn 2005 just by finding out what's new in 2008. Whatever's new in 2008 isn't available in 2005. I don't have any links for you, but I'm sure someone will post some for you.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog"Let's begin with the premise that everything you've done up until this point is wrong." |

| http://www.microsoft.com/events/series/technetsqlserver2008.aspx?tab=webcasts&id=allDon't be put off by 200 or higher level, you'll still learn something. Also don't be put off if they cover features not available in SQL Express, you'll still learn something that might make it worth upgrading.Check out the podcasts and labs too. Also check out our own stuff here:http://www.sqlteam.com/tag/sql-server-webcastsEven 2005 material will be useful. |
