its a Oracle to SQL Migration
Migration we are adding an additional date column which will identify the version of the record. What is the simple and best way to do this and we are talking about approximately 500 million records per table which needs to be updated for this column.

Update records in batches not whole single transaction. You also may want to defrag index after it is done as you are prone to internal fragmentation.
