I have a wired problem that I can't figure out. I have 2 named instances
installed on the same box. I can connect to both of them via Studio. Both
were installed in the same manner. One instance behaves as expected but if I
try to create a Maintenance Plan on the second instance I get the following
error:

The action you attempted to perform on a remote instance of SQL Server has
failed because the action requires a SQL Server component that is not
installed on the remote computer. To proceed, install SQL Server 2005
Management Tools on the remote computer, and then try again. For more
information, see "How to: Install SQL Server 2005 (Setup)" in SQL Server
2005 Books Online, or find the article on MSDN at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=57083 . (ObjectExplorer)

I do not understand this as both instances are local. I uninstalled the
second instance and reinstalled it but I get the same result.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards

Pete.
