Hi,
I am trying to teach myself a bit about SQL and hopefully get around to taking the MS exams, but I seem to have fallen at the first hurdle. I was give a copy of SQL Server 2005 which I tried to install on a machine with Vista Home Premium. But I got a couple of warning message during the setup, the main one being about IIS. I checked that I had IIS installed and from what I have been able to work out version 7 is installed but without all the features such as windows authentication.
After spending a couple of days scouring the net I am completely puzzled.
Can someone answer a simple question (no make that a couple questions).
1 - Can Enterprise Edition be installed on Vista. Some things I have read have said that it can only be installed on Vista Ultimate, others say that it cannot be installed on any version of vista.
2 - Can any version of SQL Server be installed on Vista. Yet again I have read contradictory statements regarding this, some say yes some say no. Some say that Developer version can be installed, is this true?
3 - Is the Developer Edition the same as Enterprise? This is something else that some people have said.

Any help would be appreciated.

You should install Developers Edition.

Enterprise Edition is only supported on server operating systems.

One thing I need from you, did the warning message STOP the installation?

I do have SQL Server enterprise installed on Vista Ultimate, nothing I have heard about NOT able to install on Vista Home.
