Our Monitoring Team (using HP Openview) is being pressed to monitor one of our many SQL instances. So they handed me the manual and said, "what do you want us to do?" I thought they ought to get some hints from the vendor on what people typically did and how it was done. They said, "if you have a specific issue, we can open a ticket." I really don't want to read the manual from start to finish and invent myself a big old wheel. If we implemented the "Standard Template" on a bunch of SQL instances, my pager would never let me sleep and my email would be flooded with useless messages. Can someone offer some hints on basic guidelines or point me to some usefull doc?.... things that can tell the monitor to recognize the difference between a manual shutdown and an unexpected termination. That can tell the monitor the difference between a cluster failover and a clustered instance shutdown. And other pragmatic stuff. |
