What are I/O reads in SQL Server?
Are they physical reads or logical reads?
Can someone please explain me this?

IO reads can be either physical or logical.

SET STATISTICS IO ON

will display both types of reads.

Thanks Peso...

In general some tool doesnot mention in the results whether the read is logical i/o or physical i/o and just gives the statistics of i/o, then what does it mean? physical i/o or logical i/o?

Which tools are you referring to?
The suggestion above is used in a SSMS query window and the result is presented in the Messages tab.
