Hi all,

This is an odd question, but I am stumped and thought I would go to the experts.

Due to our version control setup, our SQL scripts are broken down into *.ddl and *.dml files. During a lengthy implementation, I got tired of cutting and pasting the code into the query windows and just associated the 2 extensions to open the Management Studio.

But the weird thing is that they open, but I cannot find anyway to get them connected to my instance. They just open in a new query window with no connection options anywhere! I clicked and right clicked all around…looked in the menus… If I change their extensions to *.sql, they open right up with the “Connect to a Database Engine” window!

It is Friday afternoon though…maybe I’m blind…or asking too much!

Thanks for your help!!

Just an idea:
name the files *.ddl.sql and *.dml.sql

No, you're never too old to Yak'n'Roll if you're too young to die.

files other than .sql are categorized as Miscellaneous, thus if it is not an sql file you can't execute it hence no connection info..

webfred provided a good solution...
