 how much space will be freed during tran log bk?

I DO hope this isn't the dumbest question ever but I have searched and can't find the answer. Sorry if it is!!

If I have tran log = X gb, how can i tell how much is no longer active (& therefore how much space will be reclaimed during truncate)?
