I'm new and inexperienced with SQL admin and I am attempting to manage an SQL Server 2003 database that has been growing. I have been deleting old data, but that actually makes the database sizes go up, not down, so I am a little confused. My MDF is currently 10GB and the LDF is just over 60GB. Two weeks ago they were 8GB and 50GB. I am running out of room on the disk that the database files are on and am looking at my options. I could add more storage, but I would rather get it down to a manageable size. I'm sure there is room to shrink this beast in size, but I'm clueless where to start.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You are probably using FULL recovery model and not backing up your transaction log. Either switch to SIMPLE or start backing up your transaction log on a regular basis. We backup ours every 15 minutes.

Take a look through this article - http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/64582/

p.s. there is no SQL server 2003. The versions for SQL are SQL Server 2000, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008.
