 how to handle missing data in column?

i come across this question..

suppose in a sales table there is a column for total monthly sales for a particular sales peron. how will you handle the missing data in this column?

is this can done by set default value?

you mean to say "Null" values.

For example

SalesPerson and sales table anyway you put Outer join right?

Am not clear pls provide us table structure and expected output.
