: I have vs2008 . I wat sql server and management tools .
I uninstalled all previous sql 2005 stuff and downloaded SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe for sql server express 2008.
I followed the instructions from below.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7522A683-4CB2-454E-B908-E805E9BD4E28&displaylang=en#filelist

I got an error on install when it claims I have a previous ver of vs2008 and need to install sp1 which I have. After installing sp1 I still get same error and now I have no sql server and HELP this is confusing.

Was the 2005 version the CTP ? or if not could you specify which version? You need to be careful about deleting all related registry information
What error are you getting?

I had 2005 sql installed from vs2008 and also sql express 2005. I uninstalled both. The error appears on install as it dectects vs23008 not installed but it IS.

VSShellInstalledRule Checks for previous releases of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Failed A previous release of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 is installed on this computer. Upgrade Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 to the SP1 before installing SQL Server 2008.
