What are the benefits of having production (500gb)on vmWare? Is it feasible?

Two of the major benefits are less Data Center space required and possible less licensing costs.

At my company, we've got several production systems on VMs. However we put mission critical systems on physical hardware as well as those with HA and higher performance requirements.
