Rajesh writes "Previously SP3 was installed on SQL Server 7.0 and the security checker provided by Microsoft (hotfixchecker) used to identify as such. After applying SP4 on the SQL Server 7.0 the service pack gets installed but now the hot fix checker gives the message - SQL Server 7.0 Gold
The latest SP for this product is not installed. Currently SQL Server Gold is installed. The latest service pack is SQL Server 7.0 SP4.

In Query Analyzer - Select @@version gives the following output -
Microsoft SQL Server 7.00 - 7.00.1063 (Intel X86)
Apr 9 2002 14:18:16
Copyright (c) 1988-2002 Microsoft Corporation
Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 2)

I have even tried to reinstall the SP4, and the Server instantly recognizes that the SP is already installed and after getting confirmation continues to reinstall the same.

Can you tell me what the problem is ?"

If you mean hfnetcheck then maybe it hasn't been updated for SP4 ?
All the docs mention SQL7 upto SP3 and SQL2000 upto SP1. Unfortunately we don't have any SP4 servers around to test on.

Also have you tried MBSA ? Much nicer output than a cmd prompt
