When I try to run SQL Server 2008 R2 Express I get error 26 indicating that the Server could not be found.
The system worked fine last week and was not used for a week and when I tried it I get the error.

I installed Service Pack 1 and it worked fine, the first time used it,an hour later it produced the same error.

I installed SP2 but still get the error and I don't know where to turn from here.

Can anyone help?

Milt

first check if the sql server express service is running by looking into start->run and typing services.msc

Thanks for the suggestion. The following SQL services are running:
SQL Active Directory Services
SQL Server(MSSQL Server)
SQL Server(SQLEXPRESS)
SQL Server Agent(MSSQL Server)
SQL Server Agent(SQLEXPRESS)
SQL Server Browser
SQL Server VSS Writer
If I understand what I see(which is probably doubtful)they all seem to be running, Where do I go from here?

How are you connecting to the instance, meaning what server name are you using? It sounds like you are using the wrong name.
