Attn: Sir/ Madam,
You may be surprised to receive this strange letter from me. I am SHAKIL ADAMS the son of Mr. Richard ADAMS of Zimbabwe. However, I got your address from a business journal in (C.C. & I) Chamber of cormerce and industries here in johannesburg. But after due
consideration from your profile, I became aware and assured of your credibility to help me.
My father was among the black rich farmers in zimbabwe who was urdered in cold blood by the agents of the ruling government of President Robert Mugabe because my father was against the method adopted by the government on New Land Reform Act that wholly affected
the white farmers in Zimbabwe. Before the invasion, my father took me to South Africa as if he foresaw the looming danger in Zimbabwe and eposited US$22,400,000.00 (Twenty two Million, four Hundred
Thousand United States Dollars) With a security and finance company in South Africa. This money was meant for buying farm lands in Lesotho, Swaziland and also for farm mechinery and imputs for the farms.

Heads of government from Western World especially Britain and United States of America have voiced their condemnation against Mugabe's New Land Reform Act. It is against this background that my family has mandated me to seek for assistance to transfer this money to a foreign account for investment purposes. Presently, I am residing in South Africa as an asylum seeker. However, I can not invest this money here in South
Africa because Zimbabwe and South Africa are sister country and has almost the same political history. And with the financial laws of South Africa; as an asylum seeker. I have no right to own or open an account on my name.

From the above you can understand that my entire life and family depends on this money. I shall be gretaful if you can assist me to transfer this money out of South Africa into your company or personal account this transaction is 100% risk free. For your effort, I am prepered to offer you 20% out of the total sum. Also I have to use 5% of this money to settle for any expenses you may incure during the process of this transfer. The balance I intended to invest in a profitable venture in your country or anywhere you may advise. The major thing I demand from you is absolute assurance that this money will be safe when transfered to your account. If acceptable by you, please do send
a fax with the above number and get in touch with me on the above number, I will then furnish you with more details. I will be happy if you maintain the confidentiality of this matter because of the happening in my country - Zimbabwe.

Yours sincerely,
SHAKIL ADAMS."

Should there be an international dialling code before the numbers?
I keep getting number unobtainable - or is it because I'm too late and someone else has already got the money?

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

When I call Ireland I have to use

+011 353 74 91 xxxxx

The international prefix is local to the country...

Isn't England +01...

The + is instead of the international dialling code so for you it should be either
+ 353 74 91 xxxxx
or
011 353 74 91 xxxxx

UK is 00 (but I'm in Oz atm).

Attn: Sir/ Madam/ Stupid People,

You may be surprised to receive this strange letter from me. I am
in need of assistence from all you suckers out there. Because I'm mean, I need your money to enrich the quality of my life and bring you down to an appropriate level of squalor.

Please send payments to my PayPal account until you have no available funds. This will help me greatly in getting over the abuse I suffered as a kid from my parents who actually had to work for a living. It will also help me not have to work for a living and continually bitch dumb, stupid, lazy people out who need to find a purpose in life and get a job they're good at. (grin, this is rather fun)

I knew someone who was murdered in cold blood about 500 years ago by an ancestor of yours, so you really do owe me this. Pay up jerks. NOW!!!!!

I will be more than willing to spend, ummmm invest, your money and give you a good return. To start the returns immediately, I will put you on my SPAM lists so you feel as retarded as you are.

Yours sincerely,

The MeanOldDBA

27 is the international dialling code for South Africa.
I think that if you are dialling from outside of SA you must put either one or two 0's in front of the number ie 027....... or 0027......

73 is the prefix for a mobile phone on the MTN network (73) is a pay
as you go type contract, (83) is for the people who are slightly better off and can afford better contracts.

I'm really upset that people from my Country are abusing this site (Maggie and now this idiot).

Please don't think that we are all like this.

I get mails like this a couple of times week. If I had a penny for each mail...

Officially known as 419 (scam), it's become the butt of jokes all over the world, and yet people continue to fall prey to the lure of easy money (guess greed wins over stupidity, big time). Here's a man with a mission to scam the scammer http://www.419eater.com/

Interesting sidebar to the Nigerian scam:

The nigerian scam has led to murder.

Looking for articles on the annual fleecing of the public, I found this note on UK's 2002 estimates.

I've seen annual US figures which are much larger (hard to believe people are still taken), but couldn't find a current article. There are many individual stories - just search Google for "nigerian scam cost". Most involve a Nigerian contact sending a citizen a cashiers check to purchase an item. The local bank accepts the check, the citizen sends some of the funds to Nigeria and is later told the check bounced.

Bummer.

Thans for that Jim.

Woo....
System I'm developing failed on a scheduled SQL server agent job.

The problem is.... I've just played a game of indoor cricket and had many beers to celebrate the victory afterwards.

Fortuanately its not a production system but I would like to have some results tommorow morning.

Has anyone ever tried to fix bugs in code after a few beers...... well many beers in my case?

Damn it's not funny!

Many times.
Make sure you write down everything you do. Make the minimum changes you need. Run in a transaction to test. Backup everything you change.
Don't take anything important away with you (e.g. the only copy of the script of your changes) - too much danger of leaving it in a taxi or outside your house when you discover you need two hands to get the key in the door.
